Its faculty comprises 25\nfull-time professors and three collaborators drawn from the Institutes of Human\nand Social Sciences (Serop\u00e9dica), Multidisciplinary (Nova Igua\u00e7u), and Tr\u00eas\nRios.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">In a\ncountry marked by stark social inequalities and limited access to educational\nand cultural resources, PPGCS stands out for its focus on the inclusion and\ndevelopment of underprivileged youth from the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area\nand the city&#8217;s west zone. It challenges assumptions of immobility and\nincapacity among economically disadvantaged students by aiming to foster their\ncontinued participation in high-quality undergraduate and graduate education.\nThe goal is to cultivate a more plural and diverse student body and generate\nknowledge enriched by multiple perspectives.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">PPGCS is\ncommitted to the democratization and expansion of higher education and graduate\naccess. It aims to train graduates for specialized and innovative research on\nsocial, political, cultural, and economic topics that impact Brazilian society\nbroadly. Using theoretical-methodological frameworks from the three\ndisciplinary fields of Social Sciences\u2014Anthropology, Sociology, and Political\nScience\u2014the program offers training that fosters interdisciplinary convergence\nin analyzing complex contemporary issues that cannot be fully addressed within\na single field of knowledge.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The\nadministration of PPGCS is led by Professor Maur\u00edcio Hoelz (Coordinator) and\nProfessor Vladimyr Lombardo Jorge (Vice-Coordinator), along with the other\nmembers of the Collegiate Board and its various committees.<br>\nThe Collegiate Board comprises the full-time and adjunct faculty,\nadministrative staff representative, and student representatives.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><br>\n<\/span>Administrative Officer: Laeste Pinheiro Lima<span lang=\"EN-US\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since its inception in 2012, the Graduate Program in Social Sciences (PPGCS) at UFRRJ has solidified its standing as a reference point in the field, expanding its influence at both the state and national levels.
